Annual Texas Rain Catcher Award

The Texas Water Development Board is pleased to announce that Rainwater Systems, Inc. of Kerrville, Texas has been selected as the winner of the 2010 Texas Rain Catcher Award, in the Non-Profit category, for the rainwater installation at The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Kerrville, Texas.  The award will be presented during a ceremony on March 17, 2011 in Austin during the regular board meeting of the Texas Water Development Board.

The rainwater system at the Kroc Center consists of two 65,639 gallon storage tanks with hundreds of feet of service line from 6 inch pipe up to 24 inch pipe with a total storage of just under 250,000 gallons. The rainwater is used for irrigation of the complex and was designed to add future storage. The system collects from the roof (approximately 950,000 gallons per year) and the swimming pool deck (approximately 250,000 gallons per year) for a total of 1,200,000 gallons per year including the air conditioning condensation.

On July 16, 2007, the TWDB authorized the Executive Administrator to establish and implement the Texas Rain Catcher Award competition and recognition program. The program, a first-of-its-kind in Texas, was established as an additional means of promoting rainwater harvesting in the state, educating the public on the benefits and advantages of rainwater harvesting, and recognizing individuals and entities that provide examples of excellence in the management of this valuable resource. The competition is open to all individuals, companies, organizations, municipalities, and other local and state government entities in Texas, except current TWDB employees and Board members. Winners are chosen by a panel of judges consisting of TWDB staff and outside experts.
